Eni lands in Mexico with 3 new fields

Eni was awarded yesterday in Mexico City a contract for the development and exploitation of the Amoca, Miztón and Tecoalli oil fields, located in the Bay of Campeche, offshore Mexico.

The fields are located a short distance from the coast. According to official estimates by the Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH), which organized the tender, the total oil volumes for all three fields are approximately 800 million barrels of oil and 14 billion cubic meters of gas associated.

Eni will now proceed with the field delimitation campaign with the aim of defining a synergistic and fast track development plan. Of the five competing areas, Area 1 was the one with the most competition. The assignment of the block is subject to the approval of the local authorities.

Yesterday's tender was the second oil auction called by CNH as part of "Ronda 1", following the 2014 Energy Reform which also allows foreign and local companies to operate in Mexico. Area 1 will be operated by the newly formed company Eni Mexico.
