According to Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, in October 2018 electricity demand in Italy was 26,9 billion kWh, up by 2,1% – This year, October recorded an average monthly temperature more than 1°C higher than in the same period of 2017.

The bad weather in the month of October, characterized in many Italian regions by rains and strong winds, in addition to the damage caused, ha also significantly increased the share of energy produced from renewable sources, in particular from water (+25,1%) and wind (+17,4%) while the sources of thermal production (-2,5%) and photovoltaic (-10,1%) decreased the geothermal one is stable. This was revealed by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, according to which in October 2018 the demand for electricity in Italy was 26,9 billion kWh, an increase of 2,1% compared to the same month in 2017. Demand that was met for 85,3% with national production (rising to 23,1 billion kWh, +0,8% compared to October 2017) and for the remainder (14,7%) from the balance of energy exchanged with foreign countries.

The performance of the question was affected by the calendar and temperature effect: this year, in fact, October had one more working day (23 compared to 22), but recorded an average monthly temperature more than 1°C higher than in October 2017. The figure, seasonally adjusted and corrected by the effect calendar and temperature, leads to a 1,1% change in electricity demand in October. In the first ten months of the year as a whole, electricity demand amounted to 269 billion kWh, an increase of 0,8% compared to the corresponding period of 2017. In adjusted terms, the change was positive by 0,7%.

At the territorial level, the trend change in October 2018 was positive everywhere: +1,9% in the North, +2,1% in the Center and +2,6% in the South. The seasonally adjusted and adjusted by calendar and temperature value of the electricity required in October 2018 recorded a negative change (- 0,6%) compared to the previous month (September 2018).
