Enel: electricity production -10% in the third quarter

Between June and September, the Italian electricity giant produced 67.006 GWh - The production of coal-fired plants dropped sharply, while wind power and other renewable sources grew - Production in Italy fell with the decommissioning (-18%). Triples in South America with new photovoltaic systems

In the third quarter Enel has generated altogether 67.006GWh, down 10% year-on-year. At the basis of this decrease, the collapse of the production of coal (-22%), hydroelectric (-15%) and nuclear (-19%) plants, while the output of CCGT plants increased (+8%), oil & gas (+15%), wind (+19%) and others renewables (+ 8%).

At a geographical level, the sharp decline recorded in production in Europe was only partially offset by the 9% growth recorded in Central and North America, and by the operational growth recorded in South Africa and India. Production fell by 2% in Latin America.

In detail, electricity generation in the third quarter in Italy fell by 18% on an annual basis. In Spain the decrease was 6%, while the area which includes Romania, Russia, the Slovak Republic, Belgium, Greece, France and Bulgaria recorded a decrease of 19%. On the other hand, electricity production grew by 9% in the division which includes Mexico, Panama, the United States, Canada, Guatemala and Costa Rica and in the area which includes South Africa and India.

Among the numbers contained in Enel's report, two stand out in particular: the -22% of the production of coal-fired plants in Italy, above all as a result of decommissioning, and the + 240 % of electricity production from renewable sources other than water and wind in Latin America thanks to the start-up of numerous new plants.
