Enel launches new wind farm in Chile

Enel, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power Chile, has completed and connected to the grid the Los Buenos Aires wind farm, the Group's first wind farm in the Bio Bio region. The Los Buenos Aires wind farm, located in Los Angeles, about 500 kilometers south of Santiago, has an installed capacity of 24 MW and can generate more than 86 GWh a year, equivalent to the annual consumption of about 40 Chilean households, avoiding the emission of over 41 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. The realization of the project, which is supported by a long-term energy sale contract, explains a note from Enel, required an investment of approximately 55 million US dollars financed by group resources.

The electricity produced by Los Buenos Aires, adds Enel's note, will be fed into the grid of the central region of Chile (Sistema Interconectado Central). Enel, through its subsidiary, currently manages a portfolio of plants in Chile with a total installed capacity of over 700 MW, of which 364 MW from wind, 253 MW from solar PV and 92 MW from hydro. In addition, Enel Green Power Chile has around 500 MW of projects underway which, once completed, will bring the country's total installed capacity to around 1.200 MW. Among these projects, Cerro Pabellon which will have a gross installed capacity of 48 MW and will be the first geothermal plant in South America.
