Enel: two wind farms in Mexico ready to go

Enel commissioned two new wind farms in Mexico. The plants, respectively of 129 MW and 10 MW, are located in Palo Alto in the state of Jalisco, and Vientos del Altiplano in the state of Zacatecas, have been completed and connected to the national electricity grid through the subsidiary for renewable energies in Mexico Enel Green Power Mexico (EGPM).

"We are very satisfied with the entry into operation of these two wind farms which strengthen Enel's leadership in the renewable energy sector in Mexico - said Paolo Romansh, responsible for renewable energies for Central America and General Manager of Enel Green Power México.

“Renewables – continues Romanacci – play a key role in diversifying the country's energy mix and contribute to sustainable economic development. With these new plants, we contribute to the achievement of Mexico's clean energy generation goals and to the creation of shared value for communities through sustainable agriculture and the other infrastructure projects that we have carried out together with local partners".

The total investment for the construction of the two plants was approx 470 million dollars USA. Palo Alto includes 43 wind turbines with a capacity of 3 MW each and is capable of generating more than 350 GWh a year, equal to the energy consumption of approximately 200 Mexican families. Vientos del Altiplano is made up of 50 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW, and is capable of generating more than 280 GWh per year, equal to the energy needs of more than 161 Mexican families.

In terms of installed capacity and projects in its portfolio, Enel is the largest renewables operator in Mexico, with an installed capacity of approximately 720 MW.
