Illegal dossiers, Tronchetti sentenced to one year and eight months

The case is linked to a CD believed to be the result of a hacking operation against the Kroll international investigation agency - According to the indictment, the data contained in the CD were taken at the time of the battle for control of Brasil Telecom and Tronchetti Provera would have been informed of the illegal theft by Giuliano Tavaroli.

Illegal dossiers, Tronchetti sentenced to one year and eight months

The Court of Milan has condemned Marco Tronchetti Provera a one year and eight months for receiving stolen goods (suspended sentence) in the Kroll case trial. The accusation refers to the period in which the chairman of Pirelli was also at the helm of Telecom Italia. The judges also sentenced Tronchetti Provera to pay a provisional amount of 900 thousand euros to the telecommunications company, which had filed a civil action asking for six million euros for image damage. 

Furthermore, the Court established a provisional amount of 400 thousand euros to be paid to Carla Cico, former number one of Brasil Telecom. The deputy prosecutor of Milan, Alfredo Robledo, had asked for a two-year sentence for the manager and the payment of a fine of 5 thousand euros.

The case falls within one of the lines of investigation into the so-called illegal dossiers and is linked to a CD believed to be the result of a hacking operation carried out in 2004 in Brazil against the international investigation agency Kroll. According to the indictment, the data contained in the CD were taken at the time of the battle for control of Brasil Telecom and Tronchetti Provera was allegedly informed of the illegal theft by Giuliano Tavaroli, who at the time was Telecom Italia's head of security.
