Teachers, a sentence from the Court of Genoa scares the Miur

A new sentence by an Italian court, which gives the go-ahead for the reconstruction of teachers' careers including the entire period of precarious work, frightens the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

In fact, the Court of Genoa agreed with a secondary school teacher, hired on a permanent basis in 1997 and who began to substitute in 1983, who had filed an appeal against her maintenance at the initial salary level, despite having worked for 14 years in the service of the State with burdens and responsibilities no less than those of tenured colleagues.

The teacher, therefore, has been assigned by the judge about 3 thousand euros of increase per year, for the average time salary differences accrued in the last five years. The MIUR, which according to the sentence violated "the constitutional principles of reasonableness and pay equity", causing an "unfair slowdown in salary progression", also had to pay 2 thousand euros for legal costs.

The sentence of the court of Genoa could represent a dangerous precedent for the ministry, since there are over 600 thousand teachers who could be involved in a similar interpretation and who could, therefore, appeal in the same way.
