Serie A TV rights: Lega Calcio takes time, decision postponed to midnight

The assignment of television rights to the 2015-2018 Serie A championships will be decided at the last possible moment. In fact, the Lega Calcio has postponed the deadline again to midnight today, compared to the expected deadline of noon.

It was already known that the decision would be difficult and that it could then lead to a clash of stamped papers between Mediaset and Sky Italia, the main competitors for obtaining the rights. There are 5 different packages on the table: package A and B provide the rights for the best 8 teams for satellite and digital terrestrial respectively. The C package is the one for the locker room images. Package D the rights of the 12 so-called minor teams and package E the rights for the web.

For the first two packages (A and B), the highest offer is that delivered by Sky Italia, while for package D the highest offer is that of Mediaset. There are, however, two nodes that complicate the situation: the first is the possible violation of the Melandri law, if lots A and B are assigned to the same subject. The second is that, if A and B both go to Sky, the auction for package D would have to be redone, because the Biscione's offer is bound to the assignment of one of the main packages.

The situation, as you can see, is particularly intricate, and it will be difficult for all parties to be satisfied. That's why Lega Calcio takes all the time possible.
