Solar panel thefts are rampant in Germany

The plague of thefts in power plants it's not just an Italian affair. If copper thefts continue in Italy, with serious consequences on the distribution of electricity or on the regular running of trains, in the German state of Brandenburg this year at least 14 episodes of theft of photovoltaic solar panels have already been reported, for a total damage estimated at two million euros. The companies that manage these plants are forced to adopt stringent security measures and in various other regions programs are being evaluated to protect increasingly important plants: in Bavaria the installed photovoltaic capacity is 9,6 gigawatts, enough to meet the needs of 2,3 .XNUMX million homes.

The problem is that solar equipment is easy to sell and hard to trace, so insurance companies are reluctant to commit to PV claims. Those stolen mostly end up in Eastern Europe, where demand is booming. However, the phenomenon of thefts in this sector has already affected Italy and Spain, which have already launched security systems to curb thefts.
