Dieselgate: EU pressing Volkswagen

(Teleborsa) – EU beacon on Volkswagen and the Dieselgate case. The Commission has sent a joint letter with the EU's consumer authorities to the CEO of the group, urging that all vehicles affected by the scandal be quickly repaired.

A year ago, after meetings with Justice Commissioner Jourová, the Wolfsburg brand undertook to repair all affected vehicles by autumn 2017. The senders of the letter ask for confirmation within a month that this plan will be maintained. as well as “full transparency” on this process, with a detailed report on what has already been done and what still needs to be done.

VW should also ensure that any post-repair issues are resolved, as the Commission has requested that all affected vehicles from the manufacturer be brought into full compliance with type-approval rules. It will be up to each Member State to decide how to proceed if the manufacturer does not react to this common position or if no agreement is reached.

Meanwhile, the German-Swiss consumer association (SKS) is also moving, demanding adequate compensation (from 3000 to 7000 francs per vehicle) for the injured owners.
