Pa debts, EU procedure launched against Italy

The European Union has launched a new infringement procedure against Italy. This time the crosshairs of Brussels are aimed at our country for the delays in payments to companies by the public administration.

The start of the procedure was announced by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Antonio Tajani, who had anticipated the news last Friday. Tajani explained that in particular articles 4 and 7 of the European directive 211/7/EU have been violated and that the first letter for the communication of the start of the procedure will leave this afternoon.

Italy will have five weeks to respond and demonstrate that it has not violated European legislation. If he is unable to do so, a new letter of formal notice will be sent from Brussels.

The decision was taken on the basis of reports from consultants, Confartigianato, Ance, the association of companies in the construction sector and Assobiomedica. According to the ANCE report presented today, the delays accumulated by public bodies exceed 200 days, even reaching a thousand in some cases.
