Cornuda: Aldo Manuzio at the Tipoteca Italiana

Italian Tipoteca (Cornuda), from October 2014, will be the protagonist of two important events. The first will concern the expansion of the exhibition space, inside the Museum, dedicated to unpublished collections of Tipoteca Italiana and to temporary exhibitions of international scope; the second will be aimed at the new 150-seat Auditorium Tipoteca and the adjoining restaurant, built in the Canapificio Veneto area, in front of the Museum.

The new exhibition space, the Auditorium and the "le Corderie" restaurant, managed by Cristina Colle and Mauro Drago, represent a new page in the history of the Tipoteca Italiana foundation which, thanks to planned events and consolidated international collaborations, promotes the enhancement and the dissemination of the historical and artistic heritage made up of the Museum's collections.

Tipoteca Italiana and the new cultural spaces are supported by Grafiche Antiga, a leading company in quality printing for over 40 years, as well as in the concrete relationship between culture and business.

The cultural offer of Tipoteca Italiana will therefore be enriched by an interesting calendar of events which, under the direction of Mirko Sernagiotto and Elisa Carrer, will represent an even more solid bridge between Italy and the world. Thanks to the collaboration of the Province of Treviso, twinned with the province of Shaanxi, it was possible to set up an important partnership between Tipoteca Italiana and the Xi'an Beilin Museum, known as the Stele Museum, one of the oldest museums in China which houses a refined and large collection of more than 1000 inscribed stones, engraved over 2000 years.

Tipoteca Italiana's first project will be dedicated to the 1515th anniversary of the death of Aldo Manuzio, the most important Venetian typographer, famous in the academic world but still little known to the general public. For the occasion of this celebration, entitled “A story of character. Aldo Manuzio 2015-XNUMX”, the events will be articulated throughout the year as a set of multidisciplinary activities, in homage to the humanist typographer whose ideas
revolutionized the concept of the modern book.

Since 1995, Tipoteca Italiana has been the most important Italian center of typographic culture, the history of printing and typeface design. The Museum was born from the will of the Antiga brothers, owners of Grafiche Antiga, to preserve and promote the historical heritage of the tools and protagonists of Italian typography, collected over more than 30 years throughout the national territory. The collections include type, dies and punches, samples and literature relating to type, typography and graphic design, type production equipment, both in wood and metal, ancient casting machines, presses and typographic machines perfectly restored and in working order.
