Energy consumption still decreasing in Italy, -5,2% in June

In June 2013, the decline in electricity demand continued in Italy, in line with the decline in economic activity. The reduction compared to last June, excluding the effects of the calendar (one working day less) and temperature (on average half a degree Celsius lower this year), was equal to -5,2%.

In June 2013, electricity demand in Italy, equal to 25,8 billion kWh, decreased by 6,2% compared to June last year.
Adjusted for calendar and temperature effects, the change in electricity demand in June 2013 however becomes -5,2%. Compared to June of the previous year, in fact, there was one working day less (20 vs 21) and an average temperature lower by about half a degree centigrade.

Of the 25,8 billion kWh required in June 2013, 46,7% are distributed in the North, 29,9% in the Center and 23,4% in the South.
Geographically, the change in electricity demand in June 2013 was negative everywhere: -3,8% in the North, -7,3% in the Center and -10,4% in the South.

In June 2013, 87,5% of the demand for electricity was met with domestic production and the remainder (12,5%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (22,8 billion kWh) decreased by 6,6% compared to June 2012. Sources of hydro production (+21,8%), photovoltaic (+33,0 .34,6%) and wind (+22,8%). The thermoelectric source decreased (-0,2%). Geothermal production remained virtually unchanged (-XNUMX%).
