Salvatore d'Amico was unanimously elected President of Confitarma Young Shipowners Group – trade association of the Italian shipping industry – for the three-year period 2021-2023. The elective assembly was held on 15 June 2021 in Rome at the Confitarma headquarters, where the Council was renewed.
Third generation member of the d'Amico family, during his university career Salvatore worked for JP Morgan in Geneva, before joining the d'Amico Group where he subsequently completed an internal training to enrich his professional development in different fields of shipping . After graduating in Economics from Rome in 2010, he spent two years in the d'Amico offices in Dublin, before taking on the position of Group fleet manager. He sits on the boards of various Group companies, in particular d'Amico Shipping Singapore and d'Amico Shipping Italia. From 2013 he held the position of CEO of Ishima International Ship Management and then assumed that of Vice President of the Young Shipowners Group.
Former president Giacomo Gavarone, in passing the baton to Salvatore d'Amico, briefly retraced the most important moments of his mandate, recalling in particular the intense work carried out by the Group to update the comparative study between the Italian flag and other foreign registers of reference.
“I am very proud to conclude my mandate with the publication of this study – he said Giacomo Gavarone – with which we had the youthful effrontery to suggest concrete and cost-free solutions aimed at simplifying and making the sector's national legislation more up-to-date. This is a job that I consider very important for our companies, which find themselves dealing daily with foreign flags that have made administrative speed and simplicity a characterizing element to be competitive in a market that is international by its nature such as shipping" .
“I am truly honored to hold this position and I am committed to continuing the work started by Giacomo and the other Presidents of the Young Shipowners by looking at the challenges that the maritime world must be able to face and overcome such as decarbonisation, digitalisation, with particular attention to the safety of seafarers and their training – he declared Salvatore d'Amico -. In particular, in this delicate historical period that we are experiencing, we young people must be at the forefront to contribute to the relaunch of the Italian maritime sector, continuing our institutional commitment within the associative life of Confitarma."
The President of Confitarma also attended the Assembly, Mario Mattioli, the Past President of the Young Shipowners Group, Andrew Garolla, and the General Manager of Confitarma, Luke Sixtus.
