Confindustria, Federmeccanica in revolt. And Bombassei remains combative

THEelection of Squinzi to the top of Confindustria continues to arouse bitter controversy within the industrial world. Not only did Bombassei gather around sixty of his supporters yesterday in Milan to reaffirm that the battle did not end with the Giunta's vote, which saw Squinzi prevail by a measure and above all thanks to the confluence of Eni and Enel in his name, but that we must continue to carry forward the requests for profound renewal of the organization with respect to the continuist ideas expressed by the designated president.

Meanwhile also in Federmeccanica there was a deep rift which questioned the very tenure of thecurrent president Luigi Ceccanti. At the origin of the bitter dispute is Ceccanti's decision to vote for Squinzi in the Giunta without having first heard his base or having discussed the issue within his own Governing Council. Bombassei was very resentful of this method which in his opinion demonstrates how little a certain power group represents the effective will of the base and wrote a harsh letter to Ceccanti accusing him of having only made a choice of personal convenience, which puts at risk both the correct way of operating of the association and personal relationships.

At this point the Brescia Association officially asked for Ceccanti's resignation, immediately supported by that of Turin. Thus a bitter discussion was ignited between those who wanted to vote no confidence and those who instead favored a less traumatic path. Ceccanti at that point officially apologized for the mistake he made and thus managed to avoid a vote. But the malaise remains. It will now be necessary to see if Brescia insists on its position up to the point of withdrawing Fermeccanica's powers of representation on trade union issues. In which case there would be a sensational break (after that of Fiat) in the most important Confindustria category in charge of negotiating the metalworkers' contract and which is facing the most aggressive category of the trade unions: Fiom.

A dissatisfaction that of mechanical industrialists which does not seem destined to return anytime soon, also considering the substantially agnostic positions expressed by Squinzi on art. 18 which in fact leave the government alone to defend the reform (although still timid and insufficient) tending to limit the institution of reintegration which instead is now applied in almost all cases that arrive at the decision of the Judiciary.
