Cisl: Bonanni leaves Annamaria Furlan in his place

Raffaele Bonanni leaves the position of secretary of the CISL six months before the expiry of the mandate, when he would have reached the age limit. The secretariat and the executive committee of the union are convened for this evening.

The favorite to replace Bonanni would be Annamaria Furlan, former assistant secretary general, a 56-year-old Genoese who began her career as a trade unionist at the Post Office, where the CISL is traditionally very strong. At the last congress, Bonanni had said that he would remain until 2017 and no sign of crisis had emerged from the executive meeting held just a few days ago.

According to rumors coming from the union, the resignations would have been caused by a dossier proving that Bonanni was building a golden pension at least from 2006-2007, bringing his pay to levels never seen in unions. All members of the executive would receive a copy of the file, at which point the secretary would be asked to step back. Naturally, the person concerned denies any conflict within the CISL.

Bonanni, 65, has been the head of the CISL since 2006, when he replaced Savino Pezzotta. His first assignment, in 1981, as secretary general in Palermo, but 8 years later he was already regional manager of the union in Sicily.
