Christie's. Modern art on paper: Arp, Chagall, Signac, Bonnard, Miró

Il 26 March Greta Stroeh's collection of Jean Arp's sculptures, works on paper, lithographs and etchings is auctioned at Christie's London, offering an extensive survey of over 30 years of Arp's work. Greta Stroeh was a crucial figure in the creation of the Arp Foundation in 1979, together with Marguerite Arp-Hagenbach, the artist's first wife. This ensemble was built on her admiration for the artist and a discerning taste for modern art, evident in the top lot of the sale – a fine bronze example of Arp's sought-after Torse sculptures.

In conjunction with the Salon du Dessin art fair, the March 26 auction also offers exceptional works on paper by the greats: from Giacometti, Chagall and Signac to Bonnard, Picasso and Miró. The busy streets of the French capital are mirrored in Louis Anquetin's large-scale pastel boulevard, Avenue de Clichy, which is the title of this sale. The final auction of the week's sale, Art Impressionniste et Moderne, brings together works by artistic icons of the 20th century, including a vibrant painting by Odilon Redon, a museum-quality pointillist masterpiece by Théo van Rysselberghe, an impressive panoramic view of Tuileries garden by Camille Pissarro and an elegant portrait by Berthe Morisot.
