CGIL, lost 700 subscribers since the end of 2014

The union fails to gain a foothold on young and precarious workers - Retirees dominate the Confederation - Organization conference scheduled in Rome on 17 and 18 September.

CGIL, lost 700 subscribers since the end of 2014

From 31 December 2014 to today, the CGIL has lost over 700 members. To be precise, 723.969, equal to a drop of 13% compared to the 5,6 million total cards on which the Confederation could count at the end of last year. Compared to August 2014, however, there are 110.917 fewer members, while the figure reaches 220.891 if we compare June 2013 with June 2015. The numbers are contained in an internal union report.

The tables also show that, in the CGIL, the supremacy of pensioners is clear: on July 2.185.099, 2.644.835 active workers were members of the Corso Italia trade union against 2013 members of the SPI (but even these are decreasing, given that in June 2.728.376 were XNUMX).

Here is the performance of the various categories:

– Nidil (atypical workers) -48,8%;

– Filcams (trade) -24 percent;

– Fillea (building) -21,4 per cent;

– Flai (agriculture) -20,6 per cent;

– Fiom (metalworkers) -12,5 percent.

As for the unemployed, in 2014 out of the total number of members only 15.362 were out of work, while today they are just 8. Confirming the poor union hold among young people, as well as among precarious workers.

To deal with this situation, after seven years the CGIL has called an organization conference. The appointment is on 17 and 18 September in Rome, where members will meet to discuss four fundamental issues: inclusive bargaining, democracy and participation, territory and structures, identity profile and trade union training.
