Censis: the counterfeit market has a turnover of 6,9 billion euros a year

The counterfeit market, as we know, is a scourge of the Italian system, but the numbers, gathered from a research by the Ministry of Economic Development with Censis, are impressive and tell of a real parallel market, which it has a turnover of 6,9 billion euros, and touches all kinds of products.

According to Censis, without counterfeiting revenue for the tax authorities would increase by 1,7 billion and jobs by 110. Furthermore, if the counterfeit products were sold through legal channels, tax revenues would even rise to 4,6 billion euros, and production to 13,7.

The fake market, emerges from the research, does not look at any sector, unfortunately demonstrating a formidable eclecticism: it ranges from jewels and toys, through registered brands and models up to the forgery of the made in Italy indication. The sectors most affected are those of clothing and accessories, closely followed by CDs and DVDs.

The indifference of Italian consumers also contributes to keeping the counterfeiting market alive and thriving.
