Carige, green light for the increase. Badass isn't there

Ok to the 700 million increase that avoids the bankruptcy of the Ligurian bank - Malacalza presents himself but does not vote

Carige, green light for the increase. Badass isn't there

An important step to save the Ligurian bank. The assembly of Carige has given the green light to the capital increase of 700 million euro envisaged as part of the capital strengthening plan.

91,04% of the share capital present at the meeting voted in favor of the resolution. Malacalza Investimenti did not participate in the vote (the shares have not been registered), holding 27,6 per cent of the capital, permitting de facto the go-ahead for the increase. In fact, if the Malacalzas had participated in the vote, either abstaining or voting against, the proposed increase would have failed, as already happened last December.

1.200 shareholders were present at the meeting, equal to 47,5% of the capital, including Vittorio Malacalza who, however, abandoned the meeting before the vote. The engineer was present only with the securities held personally and not as Malacalza Investimenti and was registered to speak at the meeting but, as it turns out, he withdrew from his intervention. The children, Davide and Mattia, did not show up. “Wait. You know that we are mysterious people”, Vittorio Malacalza ironically replied this morning to journalists who asked him what the company would do.

The Malacalza family, by not showing up at the meeting, "made this result possible: it was a conscious and generous choice". This is the comment of Peter Modiano, special commissioner of Carige.

The commissioner is of the same opinion Fabio Innocenzi, who thanked "all the shareholders, even those who by not showing up made the approval possible". “From the go-ahead to the increase in Banca Carige's shareholders' meeting, he continued Innocenzi, "everyone gains, the bank, the territory, Genoa and the shareholders, this is a story in which everyone had to lose and finally everyone has a lot to gain". “Today a new journey begins which will be very long, it finally has a future”, he concluded.

The capital increase, mainly supported by the Interbank Fund and Cassa Centrale Banca, is part of the plan 900 million capital strengthening: in fact, the 700 million from the recapitalization will be joined by another 200 million from a subordinated loan.
