Medical cannabis: legalized soon

TOWARDS THE YES OF THE CHAMBER - In the bill passed through the committee process, it is envisaged that the intake of cannabis-based medicines will be paid for by the national health service on doctor's prescription, after patient evaluation and diagnosis, for any appropriate therapy.

The commissions called to express their opinion gave a favorable opinion and no impediment to the measure: the legal use of cannabis for therapeutic purposes moves towards the vote and approval of the Chamber of Deputies.

In the bill passed through the committee process, it is expected that the taking of cannabis-based medicines will take place paid by the national health service on doctor's prescription, after patient evaluation and diagnosisfor appropriate therapy. In the prescription, the doctor must indicate the alphanumeric code assigned to the patient, the prescribed dose and dosage, the date of issue of the prescription and the duration of the treatment, which in any case cannot exceed three months, as well as the signature and the stamp of the doctor who issued it.

The production and transformation of cannabis for medical use is today entrusted to the military pharmaceutical chemical plant of Florence, authorized to manufacture cannabis inflorescences. The plant already cultivates and processes cannabis in herbal substances and preparations for subsequent distribution to pharmacies, in order to meet the national need for these preparations and for conducting clinical trials.

In order to make it easier for patients to take it, the Establishment also develops new herbal preparations based on cannabis for the distribution to pharmacies and for dispensing with a non-repeatable medical prescription.
