The wait is over and the audience applauds. The Treasury has closed the placement of the first Italian Btp Green, setting the amount at 8,5 billion euros. Orders have exceeded 80 billion euros, almost 10 times the amount issued. A success for the first green government bond issued by Italy.

It is a BTP maturing April 30, 2045, offered with a yield in the area of ​​12 basis points above the yield of the BTP maturing March 2041. The initial guidance was 15 points.

The Treasury has entrusted BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Intesa Sanpaolo, JP Morgan and NatWest Markets with the mandate for the syndicated placement of the first BTP Green. The proceeds will be used to finance “the expenses incurred by the State with a positive environmental impact as required by the budget law for 2020", the Ministry of Economy announced in a note which also underlines that "the new BTP Green is issued within the framework of the reference framework for the issuance of government bonds Green published last February 25, 2021 and will therefore contribute to environmental objectives and to the wider Italy's sustainability strategy, in the manner described in the same document".

Il Italy debut in the green bond market was expected for months. Our country therefore rightfully enters the category of European states that have issued green bonds together with Germany, France and the Netherlands. In 2021, emissions are expected from Spain, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ukraine and Slovenia. In the second quarter of this year it should also take the field too the European Union which will start issuing green bonds for an estimated amount of 225 billion. 

We recall that according to NN Investment Partners, in 2021 new green bond issues could grow by 50%, "bringing the total global market of green bonds at €XNUMX trillion”.
