Brexit, Schaeuble: "No to new deals with London if it leaves the EU"

Inside means inside, outside means outside. This was stated by the German Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, warning Britons ahead of the vote on the Brexit of 23 June: "They must not hope that a vote to leave the EU could mean the start of new negotiations on the status of Great Britain".

Exit from the EU, therefore, would be a definitive act, which would not be followed by negotiations with Brussels: "If the vote is in favor - added the German minister - the exit process“, leaving no room for possible negotiations. For Schaeuble, therefore, it would be an irreversible process.

For the British people, the German minister clarified, "this is the most important decision in a generation". Schaeuble then hoped that the Britain, which has represented “a constant force for change for the EU”, remains within the Union.

An opinion also shared by the British prime minister David Cameron, which has warned the population of the possible risks of Brexit, as well as the Bank of England, which has expressed many concerns in this regard, stating that farewell to the EU would produce more unemployment and less growth.

The director general of the IMF also echoes him Christine Lagarde, according to which a possible abandonment of the EU by Great Britain would represent "a major risk" for the world economy and an international matter of primary urgency

Schaeuble also asked the ECB to start evaluating the abandonment of the current accommodative monetary policy, despite the fact that such a change is very difficult to implement: "We must be very cautious and evaluate precisely, but we must at least start discussing it".
