Stock exchanges 2019: Ftse Mib recovers but Paris is the leader

The international stock exchanges proceed at full speed in 2019 which seems to have become the year of redemption for the stock market, despite the slowdown in growth and global geopolitical tensions worrying analysts and investors not a little.

The trade tensions between the US and China, the uncertainty about Brexit, the fears due to the European elections at the end of May, the chaos on the Italian accounts, but also the difficulties of the German locomotive and the automotive crisis could have dragged the price lists to hell international markets, continuing the downward trend of last year. The data, however, tell a different story. After a nightmare 2018, in which the European stock exchanges recorded double-digit losses (-16,1% for the Ftse Mib), in the first six months of the current year, all the main world indices achieved a rebound, putting a serious mortgage on a “+” sign even at the end of the year.

THE EUROPEAN EXCHANGES

Among the exchanges of the old continent the best is Paris, with the Cac 40 which from 28 December 2018 to 28 June 2019 gained 18,39% of its value, canceling the -12,1% recorded in the previous 12 months.

Almost photocopy performance for Zurich (+ 17,43%) and Frankfurt (+17,42%), while the Amsterdam Stock Exchange recorded +16,03%. AND Business Square? Even the Ftse Mib in the first six months of the year kicked into high gear, closing the semester with a gain of 15,88%.

Bringing up the rear among the main European stock exchanges is Madrid, with the Ibex 35 up 8,3%. Also noteworthy is the trend of London, which despite the political crisis due to Brexit, the resignation of Theresa May and the strong uncertainty about her future, closed the first half of 2019 in positive territory (+15,38%).

INTERNATIONAL STOCK EXCHANGES

The trade war with China triggered by the American president, Donald Trump, for the moment does not seem to affect the performance of US stock markets which have continued to rise after rising since the beginning of the year. The best is the Nasdaq which, driven by its big technology companies, improves by 21,4%. Well it is too S & P 500 (+ 17,35%) and the Dow Jones (+ 14,03%).

On the Asian front, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (+19,45%). More shy Tokyo (+ 6,3%).

Among the global exchanges, however, the best is Buenos Aires (+36,26%). In this context, however, a clarification must be made: compared to the previously mentioned lists, the Argentine one is smaller, but above all more volatile, prey to the traditional hyperinflation and the country's economic vicissitudes.

THE MILAN STOCK EXCHANGE

As mentioned, Milan also made up for last year's losses from the beginning of 2019, rising by 15,88%, from 18.330 to 21.234 points. Investors in Piazza Affari seem to want to ignore the ongoing clash between the Government and the European Union over public finances and immigration, but also the possible arrival of an infringement procedure that would have very serious repercussions for the country.

All the securities of the Ftse Mib have been on the rise since January. To mark the best performances are however Azimuth (+ 79,17%), Ferrari (+66,07%), e Leonardo (+ 47,93%).
