Istat confirms the setback of Italian GDP in the 4th quarter. The figure is worse than expected. The French data also disappointed, coming out with -0,1%.
According to preliminary data, GDP in the fourth quarter of 2019 scored a decrease of 0,3% on the previous quarter. Analysts' expectations once again pointed to a + 0,1 %, as in the 3rd quarter.
This result also determines a lower trend growth rate of GDP, which is going down to zero compared to 0,5% in the previous quarter. The consensus indicated a +0,3%.
The final data will arrive in early March, but in the meantime the provisional estimate shows a marked drop in added value in industry and agriculture, compared with a substantial stagnation for the tertiary sector as a whole. From the side of the questiona, there is a negative contribution of the component national and a contribution positive of the component Esther clear.
For the whole of 2019, GDP adjusted for calendar effects increased by 0,2%. The variation acquired for 2020 is equal to -0,2%.
