Stock market weak, banks slowing down but Enel shines

Consumer prices fall in Italy and Piazza Affari slows down – Banks in particular are weak, except for Carige – Enel instead shines thanks to a UBS report that raises its target price – Finmeccanica and Saipem on the rise among industrialists while Fiat slips – Tiscali's exploit – Prysmian recovering.

Stock market weak, banks slowing down but Enel shines

THEconsumer price index in Italy it collapses to 0,3% (+0,1% on a monthly basis). European inflation, on the other hand, rose to 0,5%. After the data, the Milan Stock Exchange retreats: Ftse Eb -0,37%, at 21263. It only gets worse Madrid (-0,42%). But at the mid-year halfway point, Milan (+12%) and Madrid (+10%) are the best markets. The Oscar goes to Banca Popolare di Milano +69%. 

This morning Paris is almost unchanged (-0,01%), while Frankfurt salt of 0,4%. London +0,10%. The spread between the BTP and the Bund widens to 160 basis points. The euro/dollar exchange rate is stable at 1,3648. The yield of the BTP is 2,85% (+1 basis point). Minimal movements in anticipation of the ECB meeting on Thursday 3.

Piazza Affari's best blue chip Enel (+2,4%) driven by Ubs report, which raised the target price to 5,15 euros and confirmed the buy rating, including the stock in its Premium list. In the first six months of the year, Enel shares grew by 31%. Enel Green Power loses 1%. Eni goes up by 0,1%, Saipem by 0,8%. 

While awaiting confirmation of the US blow to BNP Paribas, the banks in Europe are going down, and in Milan in particular. MontePaschi-3,2%. The Bank communicated that the capital increase closed with an excellent result, subscriptions equal to 99,85%. 

Understanding loses 0,6%: Société Générale confirmed the Buy recommendation and added the stock to the Premium list. Carige advances (+2,3%): Friday was the last day of quotation of the rights and from today until next Friday there will be the possibility to exercise them.

The worst title is the Banco Popolare (-2,5%): the managing director Pierfrancesco Saviotti explained that the 80% subsidiary Release, the former Banca Italease, is no longer for sale because the offers received were too low. Unicredit -0,9%. Ubi Banca loses 2%. 

Among the industrialists, Finmeccanica 0,4% salt, StM loses 1,4%. Bloodletting for Fiat (-2,5%). Prysmian (+0,3%) signed a one billion euro long-term revolving credit line with a syndicate of banks.

Italcementi -2%: the capital increase of 500 million was 99,42% subscribed. According to leaks from the French newspaper Les Echos, the group is negotiating the purchase of assets in Brazil. 

Tiscali +2%: the first quarter closed with a negative group result of 2,2 million euro, an improvement on the loss of 2,6 million in the corresponding period last year. According to Banca Akros, the company needs a capital increase of at least 50 billion to reduce the debt below three times the EBITDA and repay the overdue tax debts.
