Evo Morales confirmed as president of the Bolivia for the third consecutive term, once again winning the election by a large margin. According to the latest exit polls released during the Italian night, the socialist president won with about 60% of the votes cast by the six million voters. Behind Morales, the country's first president of indigenous ethnicity, was the leader of Unidad Democrata, the conservative Samuel Doria Medina, with 24,5% of the preferences.
Morales, in power since 2005 and destined to remain in power until 2018, has won eight of the country's nine departments and dedicated the new victory for Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. From the presidential palace in La Paz, Morales "thanked this new triumph of the Bolivian people", underlining that the electoral result will allow him to continue promoting "integration not only among Bolivians but also among Latin Americans".
