No completely new and super futuristic model, as the enthusiasts hoped and as the web rumors told. But only one “heated soup”, a more updated version of the latest product.
There was no Steve Jobs at the Apple press conference in London, initially held to present the long-awaited iPhone5. But he wasn't there either, the new jewel. The founder of the "apple", absent for health reasons, was replaced by the new CEO Tim Cook, in a debut that turned out to be a bit bitter, given the feedback on the financial markets. And instead of the new 5 model, there was the 4S on stage: simply one improved version of the fourth “iPhone by”, the one released last year, capable of becoming the best-selling smartphone on the planet.
Il design of the 4S is identical: same finishes in glass and metal. The internal components, however, are extensively renewed. The A5 processor is a “dual core” (double core) already inside the iPad 2, with double the power. Even the GPU, the chip that takes care of graphics and which is essential for games, is enhanced: 7 times faster. The internal memory reaches 64 gigabytes.
Multimedia takes a leap forward: 8 Megapixel photos, with a sensor that guarantees more sharpness and more natural colors, and Full HD videos, ready for the latest generation large LCD televisions. The telephone part has been redesigned, with two antennas that should solve the "death grip" problem (holding the phone with the left hand, the reception bars of the first iPhone 4 tend dangerously towards zero).
Interesting news, however, the debut of Siri program: It is a system of voice commands which will allow you to give even complex orders, from "what's the weather like" to "find a restaurant". At the moment it is only in English, but other languages will come too
The new iPhone is therefore more like a low-cost version of the previous one: the minimum model, 16GB, will cost only 199 euros (or 199 dollars), the 32GB and 64GB ones at 299 and 399 euros (or dollars) respectively.
Overall, therefore, an underwhelming product, which will be released in the United States and in other countries (including Germany, Japan and France) on October 14, while in Italy on the 28th. Provided that the court does not block the distribution. Samsung has indeed announced battle: will ask the courts to Italy and France to prohibit the sale of the new iPhone 4S for the infringement of its patents on mobile technology, thus bringing the legal battle already underway with the US company to a new front. This is in fact the twentieth dispute, in 9 different countries, between the two competitors since last April.
In light of all this, the first response on the Stock Exchange could only be negative: yesterday after the presentation of the iPhone 4S Apple stock lost 2%.
