Banks: Abi-unions agreement on trade policies

The ABI communicates it, saying it is "particularly satisfied with a new result at the basis of further constructive union relations" - Romani (First Cisl): "With this agreement, not only is the work in the banks reconstructed, but, above all, the relationship between citizens and the banking system".

It was signed today in Rome, after a broad and constructive discussion between the Abi and the trade unions of the sector, the National Agreement on trade policies and work organization which has identified a series of innovative initiatives to reaffirm with strong conviction the ethical values which inspire the relationships between the banking world, personnel and customers.

The ABI communicates it, saying it is "particularly satisfied with a new result at the basis of further constructive union relations and aimed at sharing principles and criteria of behavior as common as possible".

The agreement - aimed at renewing the centrality of the banking sector and its fundamental role in supporting the country's economy and protecting savings, in the interest of families, businesses and territories – refers to banks which, if they have not already defined specific agreements on the matter, will evaluate the definition of solutions in compliance with their autonomy. In the same way, it refers to banks with which specific agreements have already been signed and which will possibly proceed to evaluate connections with the national Protocol.

This applies to the entire articulated scheme that has been achieved outline goals, principles and values taking into account: the reference regulatory framework, including the European one; the importance of information, training and communication initiatives; methods for monitoring and analyzing commercial data; the best application of the provisions on liability and protection.

In this sense, the common objective of the parties is the dissemination of "positive values towards all stakeholders, the culture of rules and the prevention of possibly non-compliant behaviour, thus strengthening the overall reputation and trust in companies in the sector and enhancing the fundamental role of workers".

With the same spirit of sharing and collaboration that led to the agreement, finally, it is intended to set up a national bilateral commission defining its structure, operating rules and tasks with the aim of directing, promoting and monitoring the consistent implementation of the provisions.

“The first organizational participation agreement in the banking system represents a historic turning point: now that workers are entitled to enter into the merits of commercial and operational choices, the conditions are being created for a bank-customer relationship truly focused on consultancy and service quality, not only on sales”: is the comment of Giulio Romani, general secretary of First Cisl, regarding the signing of the protocol on trade policies and work organization which took place today in Abi.

“The destructive events of trust and of the assets on which banks base their possibility of living, sustaining themselves and sustaining the country's economy must become a thing of the past. With this agreement – continues Romani – not only is the work in the banks reconstructed, but, above all, the relationship between citizens and the banking system is reconstructed”.

“With the dismantling of the odious sales pressures and with the activation of joint bilateral commissions to verify management actions – adds Romani – it will be possible to guarantee the adoption of socially sustainable commercial policies, effectively reducing the risk that aggressive and incorrect practices, such as those adopted in the past in some banks, may continue to generate very serious effects not only on workers and customers, but also on the national economy and on the country's financial stability itself”.

"Now - concludes Romani - we need to proceed quickly, translating the commitments of the agreement reached in Abi into coherent company agreements and setting up the national commission as soon as possible, so as not to delay the effective application of the provisions of the protocol".
