Banca Cesare Ponti, the institute that deals with private banking for Carige, is up for sale due to the capital shortfall that emerged following the latest stress tests by the European Central Bank. Banca Finnat came forward to express interest - "We have presented an expression of interest approved by our board of directors", communicated the managing director of Finnat Arturo Nattino following questions from Radiocor about the rumors about the possible interest in the operation.
Banca Finnat boasts total assets under management of 9 billion at the end of September, up 13%. Furthermore, Finnat collects more than 20% of revenues from the private banking sector. The Cesare Ponti bank's catchment area is complementary to that of Finnat, says Nattino, recalling how Ponti's headquarters are located in Piazza Duomo in Milan and its offices are located in the wealthy provinces of Lombardy and in Genoa.
