Company Description

Puma (o Puma se) it's a'German company which operates in clothing and sports equipment sector. Cougar is one company under European law. Puma offers products for football, running, basketball, training, fitness, golf, motorsport and sportstyle.

Together with Nike e Adidas is one of the most important brands in sportswear.

Puma is the technical supplier of numerous clubs and national football teams including the Italian national team, AC Milan, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

Since 2010 Puma has also owned the Cobra Golf company, an American manufacturer of sports equipment, specializing in golf equipment.

The company has corporate offices worldwide and four hubs: Boston, Massachusetts, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City and headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. It sells its products in over 80 countries.

It has about 14.332 employees.

Puma has been listed on the stock exchange since 1986.

Economic and financial analysis of the company

Puma, was founded in 1924 a Herzogenaurach, with the name Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory, from Rudolf Dassler, brother of Adolf Dassler, who will later found Adidas. Rudolf took care of distribution and management while Adolf manufactured the shoes. They immediately achieved great results.

After the war, due to disagreements, the two brothers chose to divide the company in half. Thus Puma was born in 1948 and Adidas in 1949.

In 1948 Puma created the first football boot "To Tom".

In 1958 he introduced his shaped logo.

Rudolf Dassler dies on October 27, 1974. His children Armin e Gerd they inherit the company and after a legal dispute between the two, Armin Dassler becomes the manager of the company.

In 1986 Puma became a limited company; is quoted as “Puma AG” on the stock exchanges in Munich and Frankfurt.

In 1989 Armin and Gerd Dassler decide to sell their 72% stake in Puma to the Swiss company What Liebermann SA.

In 1996 Puma was listed on the German index M-DAX.

Puma, in 2001, acquired the Scandinavian company Tretorn.

in 2005 Mayfair Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft mbh acquires a 16,91% stake in Puma and in 2006 is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

In 2007 Puma became part of the Kering group (previously called Pinault-Spring-Redoute, or PPR). The French group led by François Pinault announces the purchase of 27% of Puma for approximately 5,3 billion euros. The intention of the group is to subsequently buy the whole company.

In 2010 buy Cobra-Golf renaming it Cobra Puma Golf. He decides to become a carbon neutral company.

Puma becomes a European company under the name of Puma se in 2011 and takes over the clothing and socks company Dobotex.

In May 2018 Kering decides to sell its shares in Puma directly maintaining the 16%. The Groupe Artemis (parallel company of Kering) buys 29% of Puma shares.

In 2019, Artemis also decides to reduce its stake in Puma by announcing that it will issue bonds convertible into Puma shares by 2025 for an amount of 500 million euros. Artemis will remain in possession of 25% of the capital.

Puma has had among the greatest testimonials of sport: Diego Armando Maradona, Usain Bolt, Pele, Johan Cruyff, Matthaus, Buffon, Neymar. He dressed the Italian National with which she graduated champion in 2006 and supplies materials to the F1 teams Scuderia Ferrari, Mercedes Amg Petronas, Red Bull Racing and MotoGP Ducati Racing.

He collaborated with the brand Hello Kitty for creating a shoe and with Fossil to create his first wristwatch.
