Morgan Stanley is an American financial services company headquartered in New Yorkk. Morgan Stanley, through its affiliates and subsidiaries, advises and manages and distributes capital for institutions, governments and individuals. The company has equity interests in numerous companies around the world.
It has more than 68.000 employees in approximately 1200 offices in 42 countries around the world.

Economic and financial analysis of the company
Morgan Stanley was founded on September 5, 1935 by Henry Sturgis Morgan and Harold Stanley. The company was born following the law Glass-Steagall Act, which did not allow a corporation to maintain an investment bank and a commercial bank under the same entity at the same time.
JP Morgan & Co., having the two sections, thus decided to focus on the commercial bank because it was considered a more profitable activity and spun off the investment segment. Some employees, including the two founders, left JP Morgan & Co. and joined other employees of the “Drexel Partners” forming Morgan Stanley.
The bank was immediately a great success; in one year it gained a 24% market share (about $1,1 billion) in public offerings.
In 1939 he got to be the head of the financing of the US railroads.
In 1941, a corporate reorganization took place to allow for greater activity in the securities sector.
In 1962 Morgan Stanley created the first computer model valid for financial analysis.
In 1967 he established in Paris, the Morgan & Cie International with the aim of entering the European real estate market. It also acquires the Harvey & Co., Inc.
In 1970 he opened a representative office in Tokyo and entered the Japanese market.
In 1975 he established the Morgan Stanley International Inc. in London.
In 1977 the wealth management department was born with the creation of Morgan Stanley Realty Inc.

In 1989 it landed in Italy with the launch of SICAV MS INVF, an open-end investment fund of the UCITS type.

On February 5, 1997, MS merged with Dean Witter Discover & Co., the financial services business spun off from Sears Roebuck. Morgan Stanley chairman, John J. Mack, became president and chief operating officer of the company. The name is changed to “Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.”.
In 1999 a joint venture is created in India with the local partner JM Financial.
