Company Description
BNP Paribas is a French international banking group. The bank was established in 2000 by merger of Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) and Paribas. It is one of the four major French international banks along with Crédit Agricole, Société Générale and Groupe BPCE. It is the largest bank in Europe and the seventh largest bank in the world by total assets. BNP Paribas has been considered a systemically important bank since Financial Stability Board.
It operates in over 70 countries. The main markets are Belgium, France, Italy and Luxembourg. It has approximately 200.000 employees and over 30 million customers. In France alone, BNP Paribas operates one of the largest retail banking networks with 2.200 branches and over 3.200 ATMs.
The Group offers savings and investment instruments, insurance-pension products, private banking, mortgages, consumer credit, e-banking services and products and services for companies.
The activities of the BNP Paribas Group are organized around two business areas: Retail Banking & Services and Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB).
The largest revenues come from the Retail sector (56,4%) followed by Corporate & Investment Banking (30,8%). Geographically, the largest revenues come from Europe (72,2%) followed by North America (12,9%), Asia-Pacific (8,6%) and other countries (6,3%).

Economic and financial analysis of the company
BNP Paribas was born from the merger of the Banque nationale de Paris (BNP) with the Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas (Paribas) in 2000.
BNP was created in 1966 from the merger of two French banks, the Banque nationale pour le commerce et l'industrie (BNCI) and the Comptoir national d'escompte de Paris (CNEP). Paribas, on the other hand, was established in 1872 from the merger of two merchant banks in Paris and Amsterdam.
In 2006, BNP Paribas acquires the Banca Nazionale del Laboro (BNL), sixth Italian bank. First buy from Unipol sells its stake by purchasing 48% and subsequently launches a tender offer on the total share capital. For BNP Paribas, BNL represented an opportunity to expand its client base by acquiring a second large retail market after the French one.
As of October 2008, BNP acquires 75% of Fortis Bank in Belgium, in return the Belgian government becomes the main shareholder of the new group. born BNP Paribas Fortis.
In May 2009, the group becomes the majority shareholder (65,96%) of BGL (Fortis Bank Luxembourg); the State of Luxembourg held 34%, effectively making BNP the largest bank in the eurozone by deposits held. The bank's corporate name is changed to BGL BNP Paribas.
In February 2010 BGL BNP Paribas becomes the 100% owner of BNP Paribas Luxembourg through a merger by incorporation.
In 2010 it acquired 75% of Findomestic, Italian bank specializing in consumer credit, through its subsidiary BNP Personal Finance.
In 2011, through BNL, it entered the share capital of For Micro, the main Italian microcredit operator and acquires 100% of the Findomestic capital.
In 2013 the BNP Paribas Group and the Rabobank Group I reach an agreement for the sale of the 98,5% stake controlled by Rabobank in Bank Gospodarki Żywnościowej (BGŻ Bank) for the sum of 1 billion euros.
Online banking is launched in Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and Austria HelloBank!.
In 2017, the Group, through BNP Paribas Cardif, reach an agreement with Ageas to acquire full ownership of Cargeas Assicurazioni.
As of February 2021 sells Cargeas insurance to Intesa Sanpolo for 390 million euros.
