Atari: North American division filed for bankruptcy to bankrupt the French division

According to the LA Times, the North American division of the legendary video game company Atari has filed for bankruptcy. The attempt is to shake off the debts of the French division to re-found a new company. Globally, Atari isn't doing well at all, with revenues plummeting over the past two years and profits shrinking as a result. The shares on the market are now worth less than one euro.

The flight of the US division could also effectively prevent the European division from obtaining credit from a British financial institution. Atari is currently working on a new Pong with Zynga and the mobile versions of Rollercoaster Tycoon, Dungeons and Dragons, Centipede: Origins and Outlaw.
