Contemporary art, new funds for the eighth edition of the Italian Council

The new edition of the call - the eighth since its conception - has been active since 18 December 2019 and it will be possible to send applications until 2 March 2020. Applications can be submitted by Italian artists, curators, critics, museums, public and private bodies non-profit organizations, university institutes, foundations and non-profit cultural associations.

With an allocation of 1,3 million euros, Minister Dario Franceschini announces the new edition of the Italian Council, MiBACT program to support Italian contemporary art.

"Investing in contemporary creativity is one of the objectives of my second mandate. If so far much has been done to preserve and enhance the legacy of the past, the time has come to devote more resources to the artistic production of our time. From this point of view, the Italian Council is confirmed as a winning initiative for the promotion of the artistic creativity of the country's talents. The MiBACT supports this project with important resources. The selected proposals bear witness to the high quality level of Italian artistic production and are an expression of the great interest that international institutions show in our art" said Minister Dario Franceschini.

With the seventh edition, Italian Council will finance the production and acquisition of the works of Francesco Bertocco, Pamela Breda, Elisa Caldana, Stefano Graziani, Invernomuto, Maria Lai, Sergio Lombardo, Diego Marcon, Elena Mazzi, Cosimo Veneziano, Francesco Vezzoli; presented respectively by the Viafarini Association (Milan), Kingston University (London, UK), the Agiverona Cultural Association (Verona), the Andrea Palladio International Center for Architecture Studies Foundation (Vicenza), the Morra Greco Foundation (Naples), the MAXXI Foundation (Rome), Untitled Association (Rome), Curva Cultural Association (Trapani), ar/ge Kunst (Bolzano), Sardi Foundation for Art (Turin) and Brescia Musei Foundation (Brescia).

For the section dedicated to the international promotion of artists, curators and critics, the exhibition projects of Gianfranco Baruchello, Irma Blank, Giovanni Fontana, Goldschmied & Chiari, Superstudio, Gian Maria Tosatti, presented respectively by the Baruchello Foundation (Rome), CAPC – Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux (France), the Bonotto Foundation (Vicenza), International Arts & Artists (Washington, USA), Civa Foundation (Brussels), The Blank Contemporary Art (Bergamo ); the participation in international events of Tomás Saraceno promoted by the Association "Riga International Biennial" (Latvia) will also be financed, together with the residencies of Andrea Caretto and Raffaella Spagnae of Dimora Oz Collective with projects presented respectively by Paolo Rosso with Bodhi Dharma Foundation (Mongolia) and Dimora Oz Cultural Association (Palermo).

The winning editorial projects will be involved Enrico Crispolti, Gianfranco Baruchello, Maria Lai, Luca Maria Patella, Titina Maselli; the curators Irene Calderoni e Lucrezia Calabro Viscontithe Zerynthia association, with proposals presented respectively by the Cultural Association Archivio Crispolti Arte Contemporanea (Rome), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), Zerynthia Association for Contemporary Art ODV (Rome).

Each project must include collaboration with international realities and/or a promotion phase abroad.

Italian Council is the international tender promoted by the DGCR in support of contemporary Italian creativity, strongly engaged in the promotion of Italian art abroad.
