Alitalia, the contract negotiation reopens but the strike remains

This morning's meeting between the Government and Alitalia representatives produced its results. Assaereo, the Confindustria association to which Alitalia adheres, convened the unions for the afternoon of February 22 in an attempt to trto find a solution to the impasse in which the negotiations on the new national contract ended. The company thus suspends the decision to replace the collective labor agreement with an internal regulation with effect from 1 March.

Through a note Alitalia says it is willing to reach an agreement with the unions. According to the press release, the managing director Cramer Ball, during the meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, underlined "the Company's intention to find an agreement with the trade union organizations on the renewal of the National Labor Contract, which expired on 31 December. For this reason, Alitalia has already renewed its invitation to the unions to resume discussions with the company, first of all to establish the urgent and necessary stages in order to facilitate an agreement".

In the note, the airline highlights that it continues to “believe that an agreement with the trade unions is the most desirable way to relaunch the company. Without prejudice the need to renew its business model, increasing revenues and reducing costs, to make Alitalia competitive and economically sustainable on the market".

The Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda expresses satisfaction for the timeliness with which Assaereo complied with the government's request to deal with the trade union organizations on the delicate issue of extending the national labor contract. The Minister urged the parties to quickly identify a solution capable of avoiding any possible tension pending the imminent start of discussions on Alitalia's industrial plan expected for the first week of March.
