The Prime Minister makes things clear: “The conditions for the nationalization of Alitalia are not there” – The Government will work to avoid losing assets and work resources – The procedure for extraordinary administration will start next week.

Alitalia, Gentiloni: "No to nationalization"

The Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni intervenes on the Alitalia case after the victory of the No in the company referendum on the agreement between the company and the unions for the cuts and the relaunch.

As expected, the Premier closed the door to the hypothesis of nationalization of the company, saying he was disappointed with the result of the internal consultation: “I cannot silence my concern for what is happening in a large company like Alitalia. There, too, one should be able to stay on the market and compete. I must say that on my part there was disappointment with the opportunity offered by the agreement which was not seized.”

“Whoever governs – continued Gentiloni during his speech at the Rummo pasta factory in Benevento – has the task of solving problems and also telling the truth and I said it before and even now: there are no conditions for nationalisation. However, the government feels committed not to waste the company's assets and work resources, we will work on it knowing that the decision taken in the referendum makes it more difficult to accept the challenge".

We recall that, yesterday, April 25, the board of directors of Alitalia announced the start of the procedure for extraordinary administration as part of the assembly to be held next week. The company will go into the hands of three commissioners, including Luigi Gubitosi.
