Alitalia closes the first half of the year with a net loss of 130 million, of which 100 million already recorded in the first quarter of the year. The company also states that due to the fire at Fiumicino on 7 May it suffered damages "quantified at 80 million and accrued between the second and third quarters".

This is what can be read in a note issued after today's board of directors which examined the half-year accounts and recorded them the resignation of CEO Silvano Cassano. At the origin of the abandonment "personal reasons" but also, according to the rumors circulated, the discontent of the shareholder Ethiad on the progress of the accounts.

The note from the group, however, says that the loss accumulated in the six months is "a slight improvement compared to the budget" and confirms the goal of returning to profit in 2017. In the six-month period, Alitalia transported 10,3 million passengers with an aircraft fill rate of 75%.

For this year, the plan forecasts an operating loss of 160 million and a net loss of 203.
