Agricola Vallecamonica: the depths of Lake Iseo as a cellar for its wine

THE PRODUCERS OF “IL PALATO ITALIANO ” – Alex Berlinghieri refines the Nautilus wine, which he produces with his Agricola Vallecamonica, on the bottom of Lake Iseo, at a depth of about 40 meters and the excellence of the product has allowed him to enter the gallery of producers of “Il Palato Italiano” – Here's how it works

Agricola Vallecamonica: the depths of Lake Iseo as a cellar for its wine

Whenever an original and innovative idea is implemented, the words that echo in the mind of those who first imagined it are something like this: "Why didn't I think of it sooner?". In fact, it often happens that the element used as an unusual ingredient has always been there for all to see.

It is likely that this was also the case for Alex Belingheri who, driven by a great passion for viticulture, founded the company in 2004 Vallecamonica farm.

The initial difficulty of not having a cellar puts him to the test but the solution found becomes such a distinctive element as to make him carve out perhaps previously unimaginable spaces of visibility.

Instead of continuing to look for a suitable place to build his cellar, one day Alex has the intuition of Frorte to refine his Nautilus wine at a depth of about 40 meters that is, on the seabed of Lake Iseo, where, moreover, the constant conditions of temperature and pressure as well as the absence of light prove to be ideal characteristics.

Perhaps most of the numerous visitors who strolled on Christo's Floating Piers last year were unaware that this lake concealed another original peculiarity, keeping the Agricola Vallecamonica bubbles resting near it.

And if Lake Iseo sometimes suffers a little due to the tourist antagonism with Lake Como and Lake Garda, there is no shortage of challenges to be faced also from an oenological point of view.

In fact, by experimenting with bubbles you are in a wonderful triangle made up of Franciacorta, the Trentodoc area and the Prosecco area.

However, Alex Belingheri experiences difficulties as stimuli and the results of his wine production confirm this, for this reason he has become one of the producers selected by the Italian Palate.

After the prolonged aging "bath" which can last from 12 to 24 months, the Nautilus will still spend others on the surface, further improving its characteristics which however already demonstrate a respectable personality.

The structure is there, as well as the good acidity and the very fine and elegant perlage. The wine obtained – Blanc de Noirs, Pas Dose – it is vinified in white, with the traditional method produced with only one year's harvest.

The balance is excellent, there is no added sugar and the alcohol content is 12,5%. The work that takes place in this company is for true enthusiasts, in fact it was decided to start from the recovery of old roots and historical stumps, with plants that are up to a century old. They are only red grapes from local biotypes or varieties.

Also very recent is the novelty of Agricola Vallecamonica that surprises with Extreme Adamadus, a wine that will be born this time from the depths of Lake Aviolo near Edolo, in the province of Brescia where the bottles were dropped for aging a few weeks ago.

The vineyards of the company, about 4 hectares, are located in Cividate Camuno (250 m asl) in the Colture area, in Berzo Inferiore (400 m asl) in the Belvedere area and at Annunciata di Piancogno (800 m asl), one one of the most evocative places in the whole Valle Camonica.
The company's philosophy gives great importance to traditions but is also projected into the future with modernity.

The desire is to always obtain new wines paying great attention to the evolution of taste, a vision perfectly shared also with the Somellier of the Italian Palate Tiziana Sinisgalli.
