Planes, goodbye trolley as hand luggage

Planes, goodbye trolley as hand luggage

Bad news for (many) fans of the trolley as hand luggage. No queues for check-in, no risk of luggage being lost or having to wait for hours for it: a perfect solution which however, as an article in the newspaper La Repubblica explains, the Iata (International Air Transport Association) will now endanger, following the introduction – expected soon – of new rules for the maximum trolley sizes.

Those of the highest institution of the skies will not be binding directives, as the final choice is left to the carriers. But at least about forty airlines, including big ones like Lufthansa or Emirates, are interested in following them. And therefore she will probably give up traveling, bringing less clothes, less accessories, less everything.

In fact, hand luggage should shrink from the current average size of 55x40x35 centimeters to 55x35x20 centimetres. On average, it will mean precisely the 40% less space. Iata, for its part, defends the new measures: "The complaints are understandable, but the choice, while not binding, is necessary - they defend - and it will translate into an advantage for everyone: for passengers above all, even before the companies aerials”, explains the vice president Tom Windmueller. Why? Simple: flights – at least in Europe, North America and Asia – are increasingly full. And according to Iata, only by reducing the maximum dimensions of trolleys will it be possible to guarantee each passenger to find space for their hand luggage on board.
