AdR: 11-12 billion investment plan for Fiumicino

An investment plan of 11-12 billion euros until 2021 is on the way for Fiumicino airport. Atlantia's CEO Giovanni Castellucci said it yesterday, recalling that "until two years ago Adr had no merit of credit". The whole plan, he added, “will be financed on the market with bonds or other forms of debt to cover the investments. Adr has no problems getting financed”.

The works will focus on three directions: improvement of services dedicated to travelers (such as the acceleration of passport control), infrastructural development in the short-medium term (new terminals and piers already in 2016, at least 85% of boarding via finger in 2020 and further expansion of the airport by 2019) and a long-term plan to accommodate traffic growth.

The construction of the fourth runway is also planned by 2021: the estimated cost of the ADR project is around 500 million, with an impact on the territory of 289 hectares and 5 farmsteads potentially involved. Among the objectives is the increase of the airport's capacity from 35 to 57 million passengers by 2019.

Meanwhile, yesterday the new runway 3 of the Roman airport was presented. The works lasted 11 months and took place in two phases: the first for the redevelopment of the taxiways at a cost of 27 million and the second for the restoration of lift and the repaving of the actual runway, at a cost of 45 million .

Alitalia is also part of this renewal perspective, confirming the role of hub of Rome airport and with the president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo asking for "a dedicated terminal, just like Lufthansa and British Airways have" in their main airports.

“There are many years to recover on Fiumicino, but 700 million investments between 2015 and 2016 are a very important bet that will make the airport recover its reception and passenger sorting capacity, equipping it, among other things, with new ones”, commented the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Graziano Delrio.
