La Magpie, the masterpiece of Italian animation by Giulio Gianini and Emanuele Luzzati, born in 1964 to music by Rossini, celebrates its fiftieth birthday and the Gazza Ladra dances in the House of Fantasy after having been to the Turin Cinema Museum. "Assisted by a young Štepan Zavrel, for whom this experience was an indelible memory and a source of inspiration for his future works, and with whom Gianini and Luzzati formed a lasting friendship," says Carla Rezza Gianini, "they created a work by tightrope walkers, in which we follow in enchantment the spectacular evolutions of a small black bird, through which the authors reveal their soul, affirming the value of freedom and justice. […] Gianini and Luzzati considered La Gazza Ladra their most successful work: looking at it again and again they could not find any faults. On the other hand, how can you blame him? It is enough to attend a single screening to realize that you are in front of a total work of art, in a crescendo of joy for the eyes and for the mind.” On display are the cels from the dance of the Gazza Ladra restored by Antonella Abbatiello.
Also in Sàrmede will be presented Il ladro di colori, a masterpiece by Mafra Gagliardi and Štepan Zavrel from 1972 to date published only in Japanese fresh off the press for Bohem Press Italia.

This year, for the inauguration of the exhibition, in addition to some cultural personalities from Edinburgh, two Scottish pipers will also arrive in Sàrmede with their bagpipes, thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Cappella Maggiore, twinned with the town of Earlston.
