Sole candidate for the Italian Banking Association. Alessandro Patuelli, current president of ABI, is the only one in the running for the next term, that of the two-year period 2014-2016. This was decided unanimously by today's executive committee of the association, which had proposed Patuelli's confirmation. The appointment will take place at the next meeting in July.
Today the president - past and future - of the ABI expressed his opinion on the new government, asking for a quick solution to immediately address the country's priorities. "We hope that the government crisis can be closed as soon as possible - said Patuelli - with a strong determination to immediately take the right decisions regardless of their popularity or presumed unpopularity."
For Patuelli, the Government and Parliament must support and "not leave the Bank of Italy alone" in protecting the "legitimate interests of the banks" during the examination and subsequent stress tests that the ECB is carrying out on European credit institutions.
