Wine Spectator 2022, Brunello di Montalcino dei Barbi second wine in the world, three Italian wines in the Top 10

Great affirmation of Italian wines in the Wine Spectator's annual ranking the prestigious American lifestyle magazine that produces the most influential ranking to the world of best wines on the planet. In three tricolor labels entered the top ten of 2022 - all toscane – with a very honorable second place conquered by the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 of the Fattoria dei Barbi. The Tuscan DOCG thus repeating the conquest of the podium two years ago. For the president of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, Fabrizio Bindocci: “We are doubly happy with this recognition because it goes to one of the founding companies of the Consortium, Fattoria dei Barbi, which made the history of Brunello di Montalcino. We will never stop thanking the Cinelli Colombini family, starting with Stefano, who has always been committed to keeping alive the memory and tradition of a denomination that over the years has become a symbol of world enology”.  Fifth place for Antinori's Tignanello 2019 and eighth for Saffredi 2019 from Fattoria Le Pupille.

In the top ten the Tignanello 2019 by Antinori (5th) and Saffredi 2019 by Fattoria Le Pupille (8th)

On the highest podium was the Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Double Diamond 2019 by Schrader Cellars from Napa Valley in California which it won with a score of 94/100, and which is priced under a hundred dollars well below the best Cabernet Sauvignons in this area. In the Wine Spectator comment, it is underlined how the winning label "follows the Bordeaux tradition of the second wine: it was born in 2001, when the Schrader family found itself in need of a house wine to entertain large parties or for other contexts in which small production cuvées would not have been sufficient”.

“Our lives – say the managers of Wine Spectator – continue to be influenced by COVID-19, yet 2021 has been an exciting year for wine. Restaurants are reopening, wine retail sales continue to surpass pre-pandemic levels, and demand from wine lovers is strong. We have reviewed almost 12.500 wines in the last year. More than 45 percent of those rated 90 points or higher on our 100-point scale."

The selection then of the best 100 wines of the year was carried out by evaluating for quality (based on the score), value (price), availability (cases produced or imported in the United States) and, above all, the story behind the wine, “that which we call , specify the judges of Wine Spectator X -factor. Invariably, our list is also a snapshot of the year in wine”.

For the record, more than 70 percent of the Top 100 are first-time wineries; The average score is 93 points and the average price is $62.
