District heating enters the plans against expensive energy. In October call for new networks, IREN rewards citizens with a bonus

The Pnrr allocates 200 million euros for the construction of new structures that can also be powered by renewable sources. Call for applications by 6 October

District heating enters the plans against expensive energy. In October call for new networks, IREN rewards citizens with a bonus

Reduce gas consumption by also acting on the district heating. Winter is the testing season. While in Piedmont Iren launches a campaign with discounts for its customers, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the GSE follow up on a call for new networks or plants to distribute hot water. In the PNRR there are 200 million euros which are very convenient for those who intend to build a new network or a thermal energy plant. The systems can also be used for district cooling, significantly reducing electricity consumption, even for condominiums. The government operation started on July 28 with a warning. Now within the 6 October must be presented question the GSE to obtain funding. The concessions will be granted with the ranking system and everything suggests a good number of questions.

New district heating networks: again government support against high energy costs

The government has set itself the target of building 330 km of new ones networks of district heating, systems or energy connections for 360 Megawatts. Of the 200 million, 50 million are for efficient small-scale district heating and/or cooling systems. In practice, we need projects that envisage a total investment of less than 10 million euros. The remaining 150 million can concern any type of plant. The purpose of the initiative is twofold - they tell the Ministry of Ecological Transition - on the one hand reduce consumption of fossil primary energy, with an estimated saving of 20 million tonnes of oil equivalent (Toe) and on the other to avoid the emission of 0,04 million tonnes of CO2 .

Si build structures in large urban centres

District heating networks are expected to grow particularly in large urban areas. The canalization or the plants will have high capacity to bring energy to the houses. The investments have a high energy yield and the companies in this critical phase are careful to contain consumption. Self Iren from October 2022 to December 2023 rewards users with a district heating bonus as long as they consume 10% less gas, it means that the system has the potential to contain excesses and waste.

IDistrict heating can also be powered by renewable sources

The beneficiaries of the MITE tender are owners, builders or operators of networks or plants for the production of heating and/or cooling energy. The efficiency target estimated by the Minister Roberto Cingolani it is for the next ten years. But during construction, the plants can be powered by renewable sources. The networks, in fact, are also good with biomass, with energy from a waste-to-energy plant, even from nuclear cogeneration. Examples are found in Sweden, Switzerland, Germany. In Italy it would be useful to link this intervention also to the recent EU authorization to spend 4,5 billion euros in the biomethane. Among the benefits of the announcement there is precisely the possibility of exploiting more energy sources for the reduction of pollutants. The GSE has also been assigned the task of providing technical advice to the Ministry of Ecological Transition in managing requests. The portal for support for those who apply is already active.
