Telecom Italia and the Milan Polytechnic have launched a collaborative project which will lead to the creation of the "Joint Open Lab", a laboratory which aims to create a new model of industry-university relationship. The agreement was signed by the rector of the Polytechnic, Giovanni Azzone, and by Telecom Italia's head of Innovation & Industry Relations, Cesare Sironi.
The laboratory will link the skills of the Politecnico di Milano with those of Telecom Italia researchers for the creation of services for the sustainability and well-being of the person characterized by an increasingly widespread and extensive use of smartphones.
The new research laboratory is the central element of the development and demonstration activities capable of attracting young talents and encouraging the application of new ideas and solutions in the field, thus generating new value on research objectives and shared innovation.
“The Politecnico di Milano wants to help strengthen the innovative capacity and competitiveness of our industrial system and services – said Azzone -. By signing this agreement, we are placing an important piece in this mission. Furthermore, thanks to the presence of the laboratory, our students and our researchers will be able to work alongside those of Telecom Italia, cooperating with them on innovative research projects, with the aim of creating technological solutions and distinctive skills of absolute value" .
The laboratory will be able to participate in tenders for access to research funding at regional, national and European level. Based on the agreements, Telecom Italia will contribute to the "Joint Open Lab" with its own research personnel, laboratory instruments, service platforms. The Politecnico di Milano will make research staff, fellows, interns and undergraduates available to the laboratory.
