Paolo Borrometi, the anti-mafia journalist who does not give up in the face of intimidation and fake news of crime

In recent days the Prosecutor of Syracuse discovered a "criminal" plan to defame Borrometi with fake news and summoned the former center-right Sicilian regional deputy Giuseppe Gennuso, the director of the online journal Diario 1984, Giuseppe Guastella, the journalist Giuseppe Gallinella and Valeria Micalizzi. According to the magistrates, the promoter of the defamatory plan would have been Giannuso, who is already under house arrest, while the other three defendants are accused of having written articles that allegedly harmed "Borrometi's reputation". Unfortunately it is not the only episode through which an attempt has been made to discredit the co-director of Agenzia Italia, who is the offended party - according to reports "The Corriere della Sera” – in 56 trials for threats, private violence and defamation while 36 people have already been convicted of crimes against him. In 2019 Borrometi was the first European journalist to receive the Mackler award for the courageous and ethical journalism he demonstrated with his writings.
