Germany is always greener: 31% of energy from renewables
Germany conquers another record: that of renewable energy. This is a primacy which, apart from its 'green' credentials, is important for a country which is very dependent, like the rest of Europe, on Russian gas. An addiction that becomes a geopolitical weapon now that the Ukrainian question is raging. Last year, 31% of the electricity generated in Germany was supplied from renewable sources: among these, 7% came from hydroelectric plants, and 17% from wind and solar plants. The increase in share is staggering. In 2013, solar plants increased energy production by 28%, and wind plants by 19%.
Germany still derives most of its energy from coal, although production fell by 4% (the drop was 25% for natural gas - much of which came from Russia - and 2% for nuclear plants).
The United States produces more energy from renewable sources than Germany, but the percentage is much lower: between wind turbines and solar panels, only 4,2% of the energy generated in America comes from those sources (geothermal provides 0,4. 1,5% and biomass XNUMX%).
