The Stock Exchange toasts in extremis but the year is to be forgotten

The nervousness of Wall Street, in swings on the last day of trading before the end of the year, does not spoil the celebration of European lists which close positively – In Milan, the banks recover, Carige leaps – Brilla Damiani – Realizzi on Recordati and Ferragamo – Spread at 254 but with 2018 the Quantitative easing of the ECB also ends.

Byear-end returns for European stock markets, which close higher e resist the volatility of Wall Street, which travels in swing: opens in tune, passes in decline and is now back in green. The variable mood of the American price lists unnerves, but it doesn't spoil the party in Zurich +2,61%; London +2,27%; Frankfurt +1,71%; Paris +1,74%; Madrid +1,55%.

Piazza Affari rebounds by 1,44% and rises to 18.324 points, with positive banks. Intesa, +1,61% boasts the primacy of the most traded stock of 2018. Banca Carige cuts yesterday's losses with a jump of 15,38%. The purchases reward Banco Bpm +4,19% and Ubi +3,26%. it is stated in insurance Unipol +4,18%. Oil stocks are doing well: Saipem, +4,28% is the best. In fashion, Moncler is appreciated +3,14%. Only two titles are in red on the main list: Ferragamo -1,51%; Recorded -2,32%. Enel flat -0,08%.

However, the annual balance of Milan remains very negative: -16% about the Ftse Mib; -17% around the All Share index. The total capitalization of listed companies as at 21 December stood at 543 billion euros as at 21, equal to 33,5% of GDP, a clear decrease compared to the 644 billion at the end of 2017.

The bond deflates in the last part of the session: the Italian 2,8-year yield rises to XNUMX% and the spread with the Bund closed at 254.30 points, +0,51% after even falling below the 250 point threshold. In any case, this morning the Treasury assigned all 4,25 billion euros of BTPs over 5 and 10 years, with declining yields. The rate on the five-year bond fell to 1,79% from the 2,35% of the November placement. The yield on the ten-year BTP maturing in December 2028 fell to 2,7% from 3,24% a month ago and that on the February 2028 BTP to 2,5% from the previous 2,7%. We remain cautious, in the hope that the maneuver will be approved by Sunday and that the provisional exercise will be avoided.

With 2018 the era of quantitative easing is also coming to an end of the European Central Bank, which lasted 4 years, even if inflation in Germany shows signs of slowing down: +1,7% year on year in December, against 1,9% expected and below the 2% target pursued by the ECB .

The euro appreciates against the dollar e the exchange rate moves in the 1,144 area. The greenback is weakened by the uncertain US budget situation. 

The sea remains rough for oil, which goes up and down throughout the session and suffers from the weekly data on US inventories, down less than expected. Brent -0,27%, 52,59 dollars a barrel. Gold in progress at 1279,53 dollars an ounce (+0,3%).

Out of the main list in Piazza Affari we note the leap of Damiani, +5,65%, following the total takeover bid launched by the family company, Leading Jewels. An operation, such as the one on Nice, which aims to remove the shares from listings. The decision rekindled the market's imagination for other stocks that could follow a similar fate, after the losses suffered during the year, such as Geox +2,45%, Gima +3%, Tod's +1,67%.                

Bene ovs, +7,68%after yesterday's crash. The biggest leap today is that of Restart, +52,04%, rewarded for the separation from Aedes.
