India: Finmeccanica accused of corruption, searches also for AgustaWestland

La Indian police searched the offices of Finmeccanica and its subsidiary AgustaWestland in New Delhi. The Indian authorities have formalized a complaint against the group for conspiracy and fraud. The accusation concerns 12 people (including the former Indian military aviation chief) and four companies.

The investigation concerns alleged bribes paid for a contract in 2010. The order concerned the supply of twelve helicopters to the Indian government by AgustaWestland: of the Indian affair worth 556 million euros, 51 would have been used to pay bribes to secure the contract.

It was the former head of external relations at Finmeccanica from the era of Pierfrancesco Guarguaglini, Lorenzo Borgogni, who spoke of alleged bribes to the Neapolitan prosecutors. Part of this money, again according to Borgogni, would then end up in the Northern League.

Diplomatic relations between Italy and India are going through a period of very high tension due to the controversy related to the case of the two marines
